I’m Zaira Ruiz, the 4-H Youth Development Specialist for the Southwest Region. In this role, I support local agents, partners, and communities in delivering 4-H programs that foster leadership, healthy living, career readiness, and entrepreneurship among youth. I also help lead statewide efforts related to Health & Wellness programming. My background includes experience in education & federal programs, entrepreneurship, and supporting student success initiatives. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Kansas State University, where my research focuses on community development, agriculture and food systems.
